Current openings

Studio Assistant
Our studio is a community of overachievers who excel at any project they are given, and we expect the same caliber of professionalism and passion from our assistants. In this position you will be providing general overall studio support such as errands, organizing/purchasing/stocking supplies, setting up client and staff meetings and events, keeping the studio spaces tidy and organized and handle other daily responsibilities that enable a smoothly running studio. Additional responsibilities would include scheduling, filing, and data entry. You will have the opportunity to participate in organizing our studio socials, which includes collaborating on or creating a menu, prepping and cooking, among other related duties.
Motion Design Intern
John McNeil Studio is offering a paid three-month Motion Design internship. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in graphic design, a sharp design sensibility and a strong background in illustration. A good attitude and an insistence on quality is essential. You should know After Effects well, but we especially need you to have an incredible eye for design in general. We need you to be able to kick out amazing style frames that push the boundaries for our mograph spots.
Writer
We strongly believe that every project we take on represents an opportunity to build a brand. Whether the project is big (a global campaign theme) or relatively small (an online banner), we need a writer who consistently delivers sound strategic thinking in the form of powerfully expressed creative messages that maximize and explore the possibilities offered by today's changing media landscape. The ideal Writer candidate will have 3+ years of experience.
Senior Motion Designer
As a Senior Motion Designer, you have a passion for visual design and animation. You’re fluent in After Effects and C4D, and comfortable with the best of Trapcode and Red Giant. More importantly, you can take a project from the very beginning and come up with a way to tell the story visually.
Mac Support Technician
Our Mac Support Technician works within a team of IT personnel responsible for supporting all the technology resources that keep our 120+ person studio running. This includes troubleshooting OS X laptops and workstations, Adobe Creative Cloud, printers, A/V equipment, and host of post-production hardware and software. We're looking for a self-starter excited to support, learn and expand our use of the latest technology in a dynamic environment.
Photography Assistant
As a Photo Assistant, you will work with our Photographer to handle all related needs for client and internal shoots, maintain gear and equipment and see to the day to day organization of the photo department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 • Assist on photography shoots in studio and on location • Assist in location scouting and pre-production tasks • Organize and catalog photo assets and manage and maintain the studio’s photo and video equipment • Source reference imagery for production and creative teams • Step in on additional day-to-day assignments as they arise
Social Media Art Director
We're looking for a Social Media Art Director to join our team in Berkeley, CA. We’re looking for someone with an eye for design, typography and color — and a portfolio to back it up. Your focus and interest should be on crafting content specifically for social media, and you should be comfortable with rapid iterations, fast-paced production, and concepting to quickly and creatively execute great ideas. You should be highly organized, detail-oriented and flexible to adapt to changing priorities and tight deadlines. You'll provide visual direction for campaigns that make a powerful impact, and oversee briefs from conception to execution. You'll work with creative teams and collaborate across disciplines, bringing an original approach that turns challenges into creative solutions.
Project Manager
As a Project Manager, you will manage successful execution of campaigns on-time, and on budget, while meeting client and company expectations. You will have frequent and direct client contact, daily dialogue with project managers, executives and studio creatives, and a focus on streamlined production approaches.
